Message of the Secretary General

 

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the world of Bangladesh Lions Foundation (BLF).

The Bangladesh Lions Foundation is a non-profit organization established on 5th December 1974 as the service project of the Lions Clubs International, District-315, Bangladesh. With the emergence of 6 (Six) Sub-Districts, this has now become the Project of all the districts of Multiple District-315, Bangladesh. The Memorandum and Articles of the Association of Bangladesh Lions Foundation was registered under Societies Act XXI of 1860 on 6th May 1975.

The affairs of the Bangladesh Lions Foundation are managed by a 48 48-member Committee representing all six Districts under Multiple District-315, Bangladesh, headed by a Chairman. The tenure of the Bangladesh Lions Foundation (BLF) Management Board is for two lionistic years (July to June). At present, Bangladesh Lions Foundation has got more than 14,500 Lion members in the country, of whom 3,995 (up to January, 2018) Lion members are enlisted as Life Members at the Foundation.

Lions Eye Institute & Hospital, Dhaka is the proudest project of the Bangladesh Lions Foundation. Lions Eye Hospital, Dhaka was established in 1975. Gradually, the activities of the hospital were increased manifold and it was later upgraded into an Eye Institute in 2004. The Institute started the 1st batch of DO (Diploma in Ophthalmology) course from July in 2005. The Hospital is run under the administrative control of a Director General appointed by BLF. The Institute is guided by a governing body which is headed by the Chairman of the Bangladesh Lions Foundation. Academic activities are controlled by the Academic Council headed by a Senior Professor of Ophthalmology and the Director General of Lions Eye Institute & Hospital acts as the Member Secretary. The Institute is guided by the Rules and Regulations of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka. Our missions are as follows: 

• To provide quality eye care service at the lowest & most affordable cost.
• To develop the Ophthalmic Professionals (Institute).
• To develop as a Centre of Excellence in eye care & treatment.

Lions Eye Institute & Hospital is a proud project of the Bangladesh Lions Foundation and the newly constructed multi-storied building has 12 floors including 2 basement floors. The future plan is to build a Medical College & Hospital, a Modern Diagnostic center, a Diabetic center and a Lasik center in the near future. Hopefully, it will be one of the best hospitals in Bangladesh. We are continually striving to serve humanity with compassion and care.
